God Laughs

The One enthroned in heaven laughs.
                         —Psalm 2:4

Sometimes we give in to a despondent feeling that our world is in hopeless chaos, controlled by thugs.

We don’t need a fresh revelation, only a fresh reminder:

“Before [God] all the nations are as nothing” (Is 40:17).

“God brings down rulers and turns them into nothing. They are like flowers freshly sprung up and starting to grow. But when God blows on them, they wilt and are carried off like straw in a storm” (Is 40:23, 24 CEV).

God watches the plotting of the powerful—and laughs.

God laughs at the powerful? Really? Yes, really.

Speaking of the rulers of the nations, the psalmist wrote: “The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them” (Ps 2:4).

We can live in despair because of human chaos or in certainty because of God.

God gets the last laugh.
