They devoted themselves to
the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship.
—Acts 2:42
Are you acquainted with the word koinonia?
Fourteen-year-old Karthik Nemmani was. As a Spelling Bee contestant in 2018, Karthik nailed the spelling of koinonia and eliminated the competition.
Koinonia is a Greek word that refers to a “spiritual community.” The word first appears in the New Testament in Acts 2:42, where it says members of the infant church “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship (koinonia).”
Religiously oriented organizations have adopted the word as a name for youth groups, summer camps, women’s ministries, music teams, and coffee shops.
When you consider the word koinonia, I hope you picture the beautiful tapestry of your church, woven by a body of believers who love, serve, and support one another, and by your inspiring commitment to be a piece of the fabric that makes it so.
All together now.
