We do not know what to do,
but our eyes are on you.
—2 Chronicles 20:12
King Jehoshaphat was a good man who did good things (2 Chr 17–19). Still, he was not immune to fear. An enemy army, vastly superior to his, was headed his way.
He prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” “Do not be afraid or discouraged,” he was told, “for the battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 Chr 20:15).
Two centuries later, King Hezekiah found himself in the same boat. Sennacherib, king of Syria, sent him a belligerent letter of impending destruction. Hezekiah went to the temple and spread the letter before the Lord, seeking God’s help (2 Kgs 19).
Here are Two Takeaways from these two stories when you don’t know what to do:
- Keep your eyes on the Lord.
- Go to your private space, lay the issue before God, and request his guidance.
Help is on the way.
