Be Selective

We have different gifts.
     —Romans 12:6

He had an agenda. It wasn’t an agenda for him; it was an agenda for me. He was tenacious: there was no doubt in his mind about what I should do. When I hesitated, he said, “Do you have anything to do that’s more important than this?”

There will always be those who think they know better than you how you should use your time and talent. If you allow others to set your priorities, you’re destined to be distracted and diverted.

The key to being effective is being selective. Many worthy things compete for your involvement, but if you’re giving necessary attention to your primary work, you can’t respond to every request for your time.

Focus on what you do best, on the most productive use of your time, and refuse to be sidetracked by less important things.

To be effective, be selective.
