With the temptation [God] will also
provide the way of escape.
—1 Corinthians 10:13
Asking the king for a favor was a nail-biter for Nehemiah. He said, “I was very much afraid.”
“What is it you want?” asked the king. Nehemiah said, “Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king” (Neh 2:2, 4–5).
See that?! Prayer came first. It must have been a very short prayer, don’t you think? “Help!”
When you’re nose-to-nose with a temptation and you’re about to step across the line, call up a “microwave prayer”—Help!
Here are a couple of go-to verses:
“Call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you” (Ps 50:15 NLT).
“Come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There [you] will receive his mercy, and [you] will find grace to help [you] when [you] need it most” (Heb 4:16 NLT).
Prayer doesn’t have to be long to be powerful.
