A Word From Joe Barnett
This site is about words.
First, about God’s authoritative, inspired Word.
Second, about my non-authoritative, non-inspired words—nevertheless, written in hope that they will encourage those who read them, and above all that they will point the reader to God’s Word.
Here are the regular features you will find here.
- Today’s Walk in the Word. A brief devotional that appears Monday through Friday. Each entry is based on a single verse of Scripture, followed by my comments related to it, and ending with a summary aphorism. To access the latest devotional click on "Today’s Walk in the Word" below. To access previous messages click on "Archives/A Walk in the Word" in the top menu.
- On My Mind. Messages on varied topics that appear on this site at least once a month. To access the latest entry click on "On My Mind" below. To access previous messages click on "Archives/On My Mind" in the top menu.
Each of these features can also be fed directly to your email box if you wish. Just click here to sign up.
And yes, you are permitted—in fact, encouraged—to pass along any of these messages to those you feel will benefit from them. Just click on the “Forward to a Friend” button. Your participation in this way makes this “our” ministry instead of “my” ministry.
If you find anything here that brings you, or those with whom you share these messages, into a closer relationship with the Lord, I praise God and thank him for permitting our paths to cross.
Thanks for dropping by. I hope you will do so often.

Let Him Lead

He leads me beside quiet waters. —Psalm 23:2 What did you worry about last week? What are you worrying about this week? That doesn’t leave much mental muscle for anything else, does it? Worrying isn’t something you can delegate; no one can do your worrying for […]
God Hears Your Prayers and Sees Your Tears

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer. —1 Peter 3:12 Hezekiah was a good man. He brought the nation of Judah back to God by refurbishing the temple, reinstating the Passover, and […]
When You Must Stand Alone
By Joe Barnett |
We must obey God rather than human beings. —Acts 5:29 Herbert Porter, an aide to President Nixon, pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI during the Watergate investigation. Here is an exchange between Senator Howard Baker and Porter. […]
It’s Your Choice
By Joe Barnett |
Do everything without grumbling. —Philippians 2:14 One of the most significant choices you make is your choice of attitude. It is more important than your successes or failures, more important than what people think of you or say about you, more important than your past or present. Your attitude […]
Guard Against Drift
By Joe Barnett |
You haven’t returned to me. —Amos 4:6 The nouveau riche of Israel had become proud, profane, and profligate. God repeatedly reminded them of his attempts to bring them to repentance, and after each reminder said, “Yet you have not returned to me.” They neither repented nor returned, and within […]
When God Says It, Believe It
By Joe Barnett |
[Noah] walked faithfully with God. —Genesis 6:9 In Luke 17:26–29, Jesus pictured what most people were doing in the days of Noah and Lot. The contrast is graphic: most people were absorbed in the ordinary things of life, too busy to be concerned about God, whereas Noah and Lot listened to God and did what […]
