Antitoxin for Sin

Since we live by the Spirit,
let us keep in step with the Spirit.
               —Galatians 5:25

Murder, hatred, adultery, idolatry, envy, drunkenness, gossip, selfishness.

Run your eye over that list and divide it into “Big Sins” and “Little Sins.”

Murder and idolatry probably made your “Big Sins” list. You’re not likely to get tripped up by them.

How do you score on the “Little Sins”—say envy or gossip?

Jesus and Paul made no distinction—they put “Big” and “Little” sins in the same lists (see Matt. 5:19; Rom. 1:29-30; Gal. 5:19-21).

The antitoxin for the sins of Gal. 5:19-21, is cultivation of the fruit of the Spirit of Gal. 5:22-23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Don’t tolerate in yourself
what you find distasteful in others.
