Dig the First Hole

We … are being transformed into
his likeness with ever-increasing glory.
                 —2 Corinthians 3:18

She got carried away at the nursery and came home with her SUV crammed with flats of pansies, petunias, and peonies. Remorse followed her from vehicle to flower bed; snowflakes would be flying before she got the plants of her impetuous spree in the ground.

Her neighbor came over, sat down beside her, handed her a trowel and said, “Just dig one hole. You plant a garden one flower at a time.”

That’s the way life works. You write a book one word at a time, clean a closet one shelf at a time, run a marathon one step at a time, and are changed into his likeness one degree at a time.

Just dig the first hole and you’re on your way.

The secret to getting ahead is getting started.
