Owner or Owned?

I have learned the secret of being content …
whether living in plenty or in want.
            —Philippians 4:12

Have your closets reached—or already blown past—capacity? Are you parking in the driveway because your garage has been hijacked for storage?

If you have tackled the task of cleaning your closet, garage, attic, or basement you probably wondered what you were thinking when you shelled out shekels for piles of things you haven’t worn, used, or thought about in years?

You thought you had to have them when you bought them, but have gotten along just fine without them.

Jesus said, “one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions” (Lk. 12:15 NRSV). You would never know it by taking a peek at our purchases would you?

We’ve been sold a bill of goods—accumulation never has and never will produce contentment.

If you measure your worth by what you own,
you are not the owner, but the owned.
