Liberty

Don’t use your freedom as an
excuse to do anything you want.
           —Galatians 5:13

In the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, we come across the familiar words that people are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights: that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

We treasure liberty. So does God. He stirred it in the mix when he created humans; giving them free will.

You are free to spend your life however you wish. You can’t make much of a life doing nothing, but you’re free to travel that road if you choose to. Freddie Fulcrum did. Faced with a decision, he would say, “On the one hand . . . but then, on the other hand”—and his musings weighed so equally that he never did anything.

Liberty comes with responsibility, and responsibility comes with accountability.

A productive life isn’t achieved
by dreaming, but by doing.
