God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
—Psalm 46:1
The backwash of the coronavirus pandemic has my email inbox bulging with messages from companies I patronize. I suspect they all use the same PR firm—because they all start with the same sentence: “We’re here for you.”
They assure me that their number one concern is me, their customer. Need anything? “We’re here for you.”
My skeptical antenna is up. I don’t believe those who say they have my back in down times when they gouge me in up times.
Who do I believe? I believe the dear couple who asked if I needed anything; offered to go to the grocery store for me, bring food right to my door. That’s beautiful. And dependable.
Who do I believe? I believe God, who said: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb 13:5). That’s beautiful. And dependable.
Good friends and a good God.
It doesn’t get any better than that.
