Sleep Well

I lie down and sleep; I wake again,
because the Lord sustains me.
               —Psalm 3:5

According to a 2020 Healthline article, sleep deprivation “drains your mental abilities and puts your physical health at real risk.”

Some of the results of not getting enough sleep cited by Healthline are premature aging, weight gain, and afflictions from colds to cancer; mood swings are common, and decision-making is compromised.

Sleep is a gift from God. While you do nothing, God replenishes your energy, rebuilds your cells, restores your chemical balance, and constructs new thought connections in your brain. It’s something like recharging your smartphone.

Thinking that the work you do while you’re awake is more important than the work God does while you’re asleep is delusional. What God does for you while you’re asleep makes it possible for you to do what you do when you’re awake.

Sleep well; God is awake.
