Come Down from That Tree

Make the most of every opportunity.
—Colossians 4:5

I thought his name should be Bonkers, but it’s Bungkas. According to Guinness World Records, Bungkas holds the record for living in a tree.

Bungkas climbed a tree in Benkes, Indonesia, in 1970 and made himself a nest from tree branches and leaves. Lots of people tried to talk him into coming down, but he refused. According to Guinness’s 2001 edition, he was still up there. I don’t know if he still is.

I suppose he wasn’t doing any harm. On the other hand, he wasn’t doing any good either.

But then, a lot of us don’t do much to make the world a better place. Unused talent doesn’t do anyone any good.

If you’ve been tree-sitting, come down. Get involved. We miss you. We need you.

Do what you can with what
you have where you are.
