Stay in the Game

They will still bear fruit in old age.

Change! Youth is too eager for it; older folks are too resistant to it. Young people will change careers with less concern than the elderly will change what they have for breakfast.

Everyone knows the adage, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” I prefer the maxim, “You are never too old to learn.”

Longfellow, exasperated by those who saw things that should be done, but said it was too late in life for them to do them, wrote:

It is too late! Ah, nothing is too late
Till the tired heart shall cease to palpitate

Health issues sideline some of our finest. But for those seniors who continue to be blessed with health of body, mind, and spirit, there’s still gas in the tank.

Many a game is won in the fourth quarter.
