Lord, I Want to See

Do you have eyes but fail to see?
                 —Mark 8:18

A significant percentage of Jesus’ healing miracles gave or restored sight to the blind.

Persistence and faith are on display in Matthew 9:27–29, where two blind men followed Jesus, shouting, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.”

“Do you believe that I can do this?” Jesus asked them.

“Yes, Lord,” they said.

“Let it be done for you according to your faith,” Jesus said.

There is also the disease of spiritual blindness—which is not uncommon in those with 20/20 physical vision. Jesus needled his closest disciples: “Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear?”

It is appropriate to pray for Jesus’ intervention regarding whatever difficulty you’re facing. But be prepared for his question: “Do you believe that I can do this?”

“Lord, I want to see” has application
in more ways than one.
