A True Friend

A friend loves at all times.
       —Proverbs 17:17

A true friend is tolerant. He avoids passing judgment; overlooks flaws and failures.

A true friend is unselfish. She isn’t self-centered; doesn’t have to be the focus of attention. With her, it’s not always “me;” it’s more often “you.”

A true friend is concerned. He delights in your victories and agonizes in your defeats: “Rejoices with those who rejoice and weeps with those who weep” (Rom 12:15).

A true friend is loyal. She never gives cause for one to sob, “My friends have forgotten me . . . those I love have turned against me” (Jb 19: 14, 19).

A true friend shares your pleasure and your pain,
your song and your sorrow.
