Good News of Great Joy

A Savior has been born.
           —Luke 2:11

“I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you” (Lk 2:10–11).

The news was good. But that it would cause great joy for all the people rings hollow for some—particularly at this season.

An empty chair at your table? Relentless health issues? A tense relationship? For some, it’s been a difficult year!

Please don’t consider me insensitive to your pain when I say that just as Mary placed her newborn in the hay, Jesus places himself in your hurting life: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (Jn 1:14).

You are not alone in your journey. Soothe your pain—as best you can—with the certainty of his compassionate companionship.

Own Christ’s presence.
