Looking Above the Clouds

In him all things hold together.
             —Colossians 1:17

In The Gathering Storm, Winston Churchill wrote about the months prior to the Nazi blitzkrieg that leveled much of London: “The future was heavy with foreboding.”

Ours is a different day, but we know the foreboding. Many of us pay more attention to the bad news according to CNN, than to the Good News according to JOL (Jesus, our Lord). We’re more attuned to the jeremiads of journalists than to the sovereignty of God.

Looking above the clouds, away from the earthly to the heavenly, enables us to live with a lighter heart and calmer spirit.

Job suffered much, but when all was said and done, came to one conclusion: “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Jb 42:2). “Hear, hear!”

Lest we forget, God is still in charge.
