[Jesus] loved me and gave himself for me.
—Galatians 2:20
Read the following slowly.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Gal 2:20).
Paul didn’t write, “We have been crucified with Christ . . . he loved us and gave himself for us,” although that would be true.
He personalized the verse, punctuating it with the singular “I” and “me.” “I have been crucified with Christ . . . I no longer live . . . Christ lives in me . . . I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Today, personalize the gift and love of Christ as Paul did.
Your relationship with Christ isn’t generic; it’s personal.
