Earthly and Heavenly Treasures (1)

Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
                            —Matthew 6:20

Faced with a tough decision, perhaps you’ve drawn a line down the middle of a page, listing the negatives on one side and the positives on the other.

In Mathew 6:19–20, Jesus drew a line down the middle of the page and listed the negatives and positives of life-investment decisions.

The negatives: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.”

The positives: “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

Earthly treasures are vulnerable to deterioration and loss while you live, and are worthless to you when you die. Conversely, heavenly treasures are moth-proof, rust-proof, and burglar-proof while you live, and are yours forever after you die.
