Why do you call me, “Lord, Lord,”
and do not do what I say?
—Luke 6:46
Mark had blatantly disobeyed his mother. When she came to his room, he expected her to confront him, shame him, and punish him.
Instead, she told him how much she loved him and said she didn’t understand why, since she loved him so much and had invested herself so fully in him, he would show contempt for her and dishonor her by disobeying her.
Mark said, “It shook me to my core.”
The story shook me to my core, too—for God has loved me so much and invested so much in me, and I have sometimes dishonored him by disobedience.
“God so loved [me] that he gave his one and only Son” (Jn 3:16).
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for [me]” (Jn 15:13).
Honor him who loves you beyond measure.
