Before him all the nations are as nothing.
—Isaiah 40:17
God commissioned Isaiah: “Comfort my people.”
So, Isaiah told them, “The nations are like a drop in a bucket; . . . Before God all the nations are as nothing . . . less than nothing” (Is 40:15, 17).
Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that pictured four powerful Empires: Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Grecian, and Roman. Daniel said all four would eventually be crushed, but the saints of the Most High would receive a kingdom they would possess forever—“yes, for ever and ever” (Dn 7:18). And, sure enough, those four nations that had God’s people shaking in their sandals no longer exist.
Ruthless rulers who terrify us don’t frighten God in the least. Degenerate societies never win very long. When all is said and done, they don’t call the shots; God does.
Consider the nations.
God is in control of the nations.
