I thank my God every time I remember you.
—Philippians 1:3
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”
We’re seeing things that trouble us: unblushing vulgarity, offensive speech, merciless treatment of fellow humans, class hatred, corruption of power and position, forfeited integrity, malicious political enmity—giving us a feeling that it is the worst of times.
But we need to keep things in perspective.
Yes, we see things that trouble us, but then, we see people like you, quietly and without recognition or applause, performing kind and thoughtful deeds, engaging in good works, living loving lives, and making your corner of the world a better place.
I have the joy of occupying a pew in a wonderful church each week, surrounded by good, thoughtful, God-loving people—and I feel that it is the best of times.
Thank God for good people.
