It Ain’t Over ’til It’s Over

I press on toward the goal.
       —Philippians 3:14

Yogi Berra’s “Yogi-isms” leave us grinning.

  • “Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.”
  • “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”
  • And possibly his most memorable: “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”

That’s true in history, which is a good thing to remember when we’re bummed out about the way things are going.

More importantly, it’s true in our individual lives. As Paul had it: “[I haven’t] already arrived at my goal . . . I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:12–14).

We haven’t arrived. We’re on a journey; a work in progress. God continues to shape us, preparing us for heaven. So, when he finishes with us here, it ain’t even over when it’s over.

Ain’t that glorious?
