Don’t Be a Hostage of Hatred

Rid yourselves of . . .
anger, rage, malice, slander.
            —Colossians 3:8

Hatred reduces us to slavery, for what we hate takes control of our minds.

We are hostages of those we loathe, for they hold our thoughts captive.

Antagonism pollutes the mind, filling it with the poison of anger, outrage, bitterness, and resentment.

Booker T. Washington, a frequent target of prejudice and insult, said, “I will not let any man reduce my soul to the level of hatred.”

Hatred has caused many problems, but it has never solved one.

We may win a fight with a skunk, but we’ll pay a high price.

Hate hurts the hater more than the hated.
