Is anything too hard for the Lord?
—Genesis 18:14
Thou art coming to a King,
Large petitions with thee bring;
For His grace and pow’r are such,
None can ever ask too much.
—John Newton
Pray boldly, but submissively.
Jesus’ Gethsemane prayer displayed this balance: “Abba, Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will” (Mk 14:36). He surrendered his want to God’s will.
You can never ask too much of God: “Ah, Sovereign Lord, . . . Nothing is too hard for you” (Jer 32:17). Nothing is too big for God to do, but the final decision is his to make. When you relinquish your want to his will, you can be sure that he will give the right response.
Boldly ask. Humbly submit.
