Choices

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
                                       —Joshua 24:15

As the adopted son of Pharaoh’s daughter, Moses had status, comfort, and wealth. Outside of Pharaoh’s dynasty, he could expect obscurity, distress, and privation.

The choice was a political no-brainer: stick with Pharaoh! But no: Moses refused “to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin” (Heb 11:24–25). He couldn’t keep one foot in Egyptian culture and the other in the camp of God’s people at the same time.

Over a millennium later, the apostle Paul made the same decision. He had the heritage, education, and contacts to hobnob with the big boys, but he considered his privileged position garbage in comparison to serving Christ (Phil 3:7–8).

You face choices. They’re not easy. But they’re clear.

Choose courageously.
