He who began a good work in you
will carry it on to completion.
—Philippians 1:6
One minute, Peter ascended to the heights, being the first person to say of Jesus: “You are the Messiah” (Mt 16:16). “Blessed are you, Simon,” Jesus said (Mt 16:16–17).
The next minute, he descended to the depths, rebuking Jesus for announcing his approaching death. “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me,” Jesus said (Mt 16:21–23).
He plunged still lower with his triple denial of knowing Jesus (Mt. 26:69–74).
Then rose even higher, denouncing the high priest and his cohorts for rejecting Jesus, saying, “Salvation is found in no one else,” (Acts 4:11, 12).
You’ve probably experienced both highs and lows in your Christian journey. Peter came out on top. You will too. “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
Finish well, my friend.
