Let someone else praise you.
—Proverbs 27:2
“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” So runs Jesus’ appraisal of the saved in Matthew 25:35–36.
Read on, and you’ll see that they are bewildered by these words, unaware of the impact of their lives: “When did we do these things?” they ask.
They are quite different from those who tout their works and seek applause. Jesus said, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them” (Mt 6:1). “Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth” (Prv 27:2).
Do good, but don’t yap about it.
