You do not know what will happen tomorrow.
—James 4:14
A Day Planner is a time management tool that has sections for each day, with spaces to chart activities for each hour.
Planning and using time productively is wise. But James advises those who are addicted to their calendars to be aware that they “do not know what will happen tomorrow.” Solomon said: “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring” (Prv 27:1).
Our ignorance of the future is indisputable.
We are not in control of clock and calendar. Time is God’s domain; our plans are subject to his control: “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps” (Prv 16:9).
So, we “ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that’” (Jas 4:15). Any other course is fantasy.
God is the ultimate editor of your Day Planner.
