Those who believe in me,
even though they die, will live.
—John 11:25
A 2017 article in Psychology Today ranked fear of dying as our number one fear.
For many, the thought of dying is terrifying. Hebrews 2:15 speaks of “those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.”
Agony and anguish are the unwelcome guests at most funerals. Grief is inevitable. But for the believer, despair isn’t. “I am the resurrection and the life,” Jesus said. “Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live” (Jn 11:25).
For the believer, death is leaving life’s stage long enough to change into a fresh set of clothes.
Death is not the last chapter—it’s the next to last.
Death is not the final sleep,
but the final awakening.
