You Are What You Think

Think about these things.
      —Philippians 4:8

What was the first thing you thought about when you opened your eyes this morning?—your first thoughts when you started your day?

Doctors and dieticians remind you that you are what you eat: your body pays a price for dietary dereliction. Scriptures remind you that you are what you think: your soul pays a price for mental misbehavior.

Paul provides a list of think-guides to regulate your motives, manners, and morals: “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable . . . think about these things” (Phil 4:8).

It isn’t a directive to think only about Christian topics, but an appeal to think about everything from a Christian perspective.

Control your thinking, and you control your life.
