We have come to worship him.
—Matthew 2:2
The birth of Jesus drew worshipers from near and far.
The shepherds came from nearby fields, just a hop, skip, and jump from Bethlehem.
The Magi came from Persia (present-day Iran), a thousand-mile jaunt.
Their differences were vast:
- Racially, the shepherds were Jews; the Magi were Gentiles.
- Intellectually, the shepherds were uneducated; the Magi were scholars.
- Socially, the shepherds belonged to the world’s have-nots; the Magi belonged to the world’s have-it-all.
Despite these racial, intellectual, and social differences, they were united in their worship of Jesus.
It was a foretaste of equality: “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female” (Gal 3:28). The incarnation eliminated race, education, and social standing as entrance levels. Your credentials are valid and up to date.
A Savior for all.
