When blind Bartimaeus rolled out of bed that morning, he had no idea that this would be the day that changed his life. It was just another humdrum day: same spot, with a white cane and a tin cup (Mk 10:46–52).
When he was told that Jesus was passing by, he seized the moment and shouted, “Jesus, have mercy on me.” A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
If you’re going to make a change, do it now. Deciding that next year you’re going to make changes and revamp your priorities is a risky resolution. You have no promise of another day.
God called the rich man, who boasted of many years of fun-filled retirement, a fool: “Fool! This night your soul will be required of you” (Lk 12:20).
Whatever changes you plan to make, do it now, for at some unknown point, today will be the last day you have.
Carpe diem. Seize the day.
