We’re here in the middle of this mess, where life is reduced to this moment. At this moment, the most important thing is negotiating this traffic jam, paying this bill, or satisfying this desire. There are moments when contentment shrinks to getting those stylish shoes or that slick smartphone.
There are moments when our desire seems more essential than it really is, our attitude seems more reliable than it really is, our concern seems more important than it really is.
The Bible doesn’t permit us to live only for the moment. If we’re listening, it reminds us that this moment isn’t all there is. God has already promised you a place in eternity, so he will grant you the grace you need to navigate this moment on your journey from here to there.
