Abraham was alone when God told him he would make him into a great nation (Gn 12:1–3).
Jacob was alone when God renamed him Israel (Gn 32:24–28).
Moses was alone when God recruited him to lead the Israelites (Ex 3:1–10).
Joshua was alone when God anointed him as Moses’ successor (Jo 1:1–9).
Peter was alone when God instructed him to go to the Gentiles (Acts 10:9–20).
John was alone on Patmos when he wrote Revelation.
There is much to be said for camaraderie, fellowship, togetherness. But there is also an important place for solitude. Don’t neglect closed-door time with God.
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mk 1:35).
Shut the door to the world.
Open the door to God.
