The unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
—Proverbs 11:3
Political campaign promises rarely survive the first term in office.
It must be contagious, because broken promises seem to be epidemic: deceptive advertising, shabby maintenance, unreliable pledges.
Time for a checkup.
When you tell someone, “You can count on me”—can they?
When you tell someone, “I’ll be there”—will you?
When you say, “You’re in my thoughts and prayers”—are they?
When you say, “Jesus is all the world to me”—is he?
“Their word is their bond” may seem a throwback to a long-ago generation. But in our age of twelve-page, small-print contracts, it sounds mighty appealing.
“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity” (Prv 11:3).
Avoid the gutter of unreliability.
