Press On

Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
        —Isaiah 43:18

Instant replay: Whether the game-changer was, “How in the world did he do that?” or, “What a bonehead blunder!” it will be replayed again and again.

Unless I miss my guess, you’re unmercifully replaying some of your wrongdoings on your memory screen over and over. You’ve wished you could go back and get another shot at it. Quit beating up on yourself. We don’t get do-overs, but we do get do-betters. You can’t rewrite the past, but you can write a better ending.

Take this sentence from Paul’s autobiography and make it yours: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on” (Phil 3:13–14).

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here” (2 Cor 5:17).
