You Have a Secret

[God] says, “Seek My face.” My heart
says to Him, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
                         —Psalm 27:8

“Go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father” (Mt 6:6).

Your “room” may be a designated place, or maybe not. It’s just a place of seclusion where you close the door against distractions and have togetherness with God.

The Greek word for this “room” into which you retreat to meet with God is tameion, which designates a storeroom where treasures are kept. Treasures are awaiting you when you go there to pray.

It is a time and place where only two—you and your Father—are present. It is your secret space, and as The New Jerusalem Bible has it, “your Father who is in that secret place” is waiting there to be with you.

You pray in secret, and God sees in secret. It is secrecy between you and your Father. That’s special.

It’s private, between you and God.
