Why Pray?

Continue steadfastly in prayer.
              —Colossians 4:2

Jesus said, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Mt 6:8). So, why pray?

Well, you don’t pray to inform God of things he is unaware of, but to request his help, seek his counsel, and submit to his will.

He knows what you need better than you do. The emphasis is on your needs, not necessarily your wants. God has the power to make every want come true and the wisdom to know when that’s the right thing to do and when it isn’t.

The power is not in the prayer but in the One who hears the prayer.

“The Lord waits for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. . . . Blessed are those who wait for him to help them” (Is 30:18 NLT).

Before you face your day, face your Father.
