The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.
—Lamentations 3:22
Dr. Joe F. Alexander has had a stellar career as a professor in higher education. In teaching “Self-Concept Theory,” he tells his students that there are four pieces to the way our self-image is formed:
- Actual self – who we think we know ourselves to be.
- Ideal self – who we would like to be if we could.
- Actual other – who we think others think we are.
- Ideal other – who we would like others to think we are.
Dr. Alexander imagines how much happier we would be if we focused on how God sees us, instead of how we see ourselves or how others see us. He points out that how God sees us caused him to pay the ultimate price on our behalf.
God’s love for you is so great
you dare not belittle your worth.
