Blessed are those whose transgressions
are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
—Romans 4:7
In my youth, I pictured God toting a legal-size yellow pad, writing a list of my sins and stumbles. It was terrifying.
And it was the wrong view. My Father is eager to save me, not censure me.
I love the doxology at the end of Jude’s short book: “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy . . .”
Tack onto that a couple of my favorite verses:
In Christ, God presents us “holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” (Col 1:22).
“God made [Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor 5:21).
It doesn’t get any better than this.
