Walk in the Light

God is light; in him there is no darkness.
                               —1 John 1:5

The first thing I do when I crawl out of bed is turn on the light. Tripping, stumbling, and falling are hazards of aging. As I grow older, I have an increased appreciation for light. Thank you, Thomas Edison!

Darkness is defeated by light: flip a switch and darkness dissipates. We see what otherwise could spell danger.

There’s a reason most crimes occur at night. A spiritual application is apparent: darkness conceals sinful conduct. Is our behavior different when we’re conspicuous and seen than when we’re alone and unseen?

Walking in the light is a metaphor for the Christian journey. C.S. Lewis wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”

Flip the switch.
