The wind started blowing, the sea started parting, and two million Israelites hiked across the seabed on dry ground.
Good job, God! “Because of the mighty power he had used against the Egyptians, the Israelites worshiped him and trusted him” (Ex 14:31 CEV).
They even composed a celebratory song: “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously,” they crooned; and belted out the last verse, “The Lord will reign for ever and ever” (Ex 15:1, 18).
Know how long their “for ever and ever” lasted?
Three days.
That’s how long it took for them to start fuming that the water was bitter and the food disgusting.
Hey God, that Red Sea thing was impressive—but what have you done for me lately?
If God doesn’t measure up to your
expectations, you need a new yardstick.
