God’s Word in Your Language

How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
                —Psalm 119:103

Spiritual life is both birthed and sustained by God’s Word: “You have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God” (1 Pet. 1:23).

In medieval times the Bible was available only in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. In some European countries, translating the Bible into the language of the people carried the death penalty, for the common people were forbidden to read Scripture without interpretation by clergy.

At present the complete Bible has been translated into 518 languages, with at least some portion of it translated into another 2,798 tongues.

Thumb through the pages of your Bible. Think about those God used to write it—and those he used to translate it into a language you can read.

Some gave their lives to give
you the Book that gives you life.
