Let the Lord Hold Your Hand

The Lord comforts his people and will
have compassion on his afflicted ones.
                     —Isaiah 49:13

Hymn writer Thomas Dorsey was singing at a revival in St. Louis when his wife Nettie died in childbirth. Within hours the baby also died.

Crushed with grief and feeling abandoned by God, Dorsey vowed to write no more hymns. But in his sorrow he wrote one of his best:

Precious Lord, take my hand, / Lead me on, let me stand; / I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; / Through the storm, through the night, / Lead me on to the light; / Take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

Are you up against a problem that seems too big to handle? A grief too heavy to bear? Let the Lord hold your hand, escort you through life, and lead you home.

Peace is not the absence of trouble,
but the presence of God.
