The Prepositional Christ

You are in me, and I am in you.
                  —John 14:20

Remember television before remote control? To turn it on or off, change channels, or adjust volume you got some exercise—took a walk to the set, punched buttons and turned knobs. Now you move only your thumb.

Jesus has a more advanced system than that. British Bible scholar F.F. Bruce wrote: “He accompanies His agents. He does not energize them by remote control; He is present with them by His Spirit. They work for Him, but He works in them.”

After telling his disciples to “go and make disciples” and to teach those new disciples to “obey everything I have commanded you,” he promised them, “I am with you always” (Matt. 28:19-20).

He is not distant, but close—in you, working through you.

The prepositional Christ:
in you, with you, through you, for you.
