According to a well-worn story, a member of Abraham Lincoln’s cabinet said at the beginning of the Civil War, “I hope, Mr. President that the Lord is on our side.”
Lincoln allegedly replied, “My concern is to make sure that I am on the Lord’s side.”
Nothing can separate you from God when your feet are firmly planted in his camp: “neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers … nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God” (Rom. 8:38-39).
The only thing that ultimately matters is whose side you are on.
There is no victory without him,
