Idolatry

Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
                                  —1 John 5:21

“You shall have no other gods before me,” was the first commandment, and the second was, “You shall not make for yourself an idol” (Exo. 20:3, 4).

God doesn’t tolerate idolatry.

Not then.

Not now.

Idolatry is very much alive in our day, for anything that is put above God is idolatry, and many things in our day are put above God—popularity, power, possessions, pleasure.

These are idols that are worshipped, but don’t deliver.

Not then.

Not now.

Anything you love more than God is your idol.

Anything you exalt above God is your idol.

Anything you want more than God is your idol.

Even a good thing becomes a bad thing
if it becomes the main thing.
