Slow Down

Let all the earth be silent before him.
                   —Habakkuk 2:20

You probably don’t know the busiest person in the world, but there’s a good chance you know someone who thinks she is.

It may even be you.

Believe it or not, everything doesn’t depend on you, and there is nothing heroic about an overcrowded schedule. Eugene Peterson wrote:

We live in a society where crowded schedules and harassed conditions are supposed evidence of importance. I want to be important, so I develop a crowded schedule and harassed conditions. When others notice, they acknowledge my significance and my vanity is fed. The busier I am, the more important I appear to be.

Are you living with the pedal-to-the-metal—full speed from before dawn till after dark?

Slow down. Take a deep breath, and listen to God whisper, “Calm down, and learn that I am God” (Ps. 46:10 CEV).
